The NFL draft and is complete. The Texans move on to the next phase of the offseason before heading into offseason workouts and camps this spring and summer.Houston has filled up their 90-man roster but after the draft general manager Nick Caserio mentioned that some moves were on the way. The Texans will need to sign their rookies but then their attention could turn a few different directions concerning the remaining cap space.Houston could look to give before another ultra-talented receiver like Justin Jefferson signs and continues to push up Collins future price tag. The Texans could wait on Collins extension and make him prove that it wasnt just one great season before paying him and ensuring that he stays healthy as well.Regardle s of the decision with Collins and when it happens, Caserio could still sign a veteran free agent or two thats available on the market. The Texans’ biggest areas of concern are at cornerback and safety.Here are five free agents the Texans could consider before the season:CB Steven NelsonNelson is coming off his best season in five years and is durable and talented. The Texans could bring Nelson back in the fold and move Jeff Okudah to a depth position behind Nelson and Derek Stingley Jr. Its one of the few moves and positions with veterans left available that can upgrade a starters position on the Texans. The move runs parallel to the Texans’ desire to have continuity on their team as well.S Justin SimmonsThe addition of Simmons may be one Vlade Divac Jersey of the more costly ones on this list but also one that would provide the biggest return on investment. Simmons at safety, like Nelson at the cornerback position, would upgrade the starting position on the Texans roster, when there are few players left in May that would do so. The Texans and remaining free agents mesh perfectly in the sense that Houstons biggest area of need remaining is exactly at positions that have talented, veteran starters still available.2024 NFL Draft:CB Stephon GilmoreNelsons personality and past comments may have rubbed the Texans the wrong way. Luckily, Houston doesnt have to go that route as there are still two other veterans at the position who have the Tyler Ennis Jersey talent to not only replicate Nelsons production but to surpa s it. Gilmore is a former NFL Defensive Player of the Year who still has juice left in the tank as displayed in his 24 PDs over his last two seasons.S Quandre DiggsThe safety position has multiple top-tier options left available just like at cornerback this year. Theres no reason for the Texans to not upgrade each position and the secondary as a whole but if they dont add at least one from the list its almost malpractice at this point. Diggs would add multiple interceptions to the secondary unit while also being a force against the run as hes topped 90 tackles in two of his last three seasons. Jamaal Wilkes Jersey CB Xavien HowardThe trend continues with defensive backs. While Houston could target players for edge depth or a defensive tackle, none of those options would crack the top 5 of need and talent like the five listed here. Howard has hit a bit of an injury bug in recent years but still put up 24 PDs in his past two seasons combined. Howard is a local Houstonian thats made his desire to play for the Texans known this offseason.The Texans rank in the middle of the league in dead money as they come in with the 16th most, just shy of $23.8 million.More than $15 million of this total is left over from the Texans’ departing defensive tackles Maliek Collins (trade) and Sheldon Rankins (free agency). Dalton Schultz had the third-most from his old deal and Nelson with the third-least.
